Shenandoah Stone Cottage
This residence was designed and constructed for a couple with a large extended family. They are accomplished cooks who enjoy entertaining family and friends, and their home is the setting for frequent large gatherings. Because food plays such an important role, the dining room was placed at the center of the home. The kitchen is part of a large family/breakfast area where smaller informal gatherings take place, and there is a large porch along the back of the home, where summer meals are served.
The home stretches out on its eight-acre site, toward the woods in back and open fields and distant mountains in front. Both the exterior and interior of the home were designed in a traditional style compatible with the clients’ furnishings and taste.
