Engle Family Compound
The owners of this property had an ambitious program to convert their home into a family compound for three generations. A poorly constructed twentieth century wing would be torn down and the original eighteenth century stone cottage would remain as the centerpiece of a plan that includes a master suite-apartment, a large kitchen and family room, office, workshop, garage, and long screened porch. Further, the new design should complement the recently built swimming pool house and terrace.
The challenges were to add all the new components without overwhelming the original cottage and to preserve its pride of place.
